Beverly James’ professional library career began 36 years ago in Campbell County, Kentucky where she directed a library demonstration project that resulted in countywide tax support for public library service. Bev then moved to North Carolina to become the Branch Services Director for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library where she was involved with the construction and renovation of several library branches.

Bev became Executive Director of the Greenville County Library System in September 2000, following her tenure as Director of Libraries in Roanoke, Virginia. While there, she also served on the city’s economic development team that oversaw the construction of a new conference center connected to the historic Hotel Roanoke.

Bev has a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Virginia Tech. She is Treasurer of the Southeastern Library Association and chair of the Literacy and Numeracy Committee of the Rotary Club of Greenville. Bev and her husband live in the North Main area with their three cats.
